Author Your Life
Saturday Creative Writing Workshops
Open to Students in Grades 3-6
Join Austin’s best writers—award-winning poets,
novelists, playwrights, essayists—in an eight-week creative writing
workshop where participants author stories, poems, essays, and plays in a
close-knit, supportive community.
In these eight weeks, with the help of a professional writer, students will
fill their journals with original work, revise and edit pieces for publication,
encounter the joys and mysteries of literature, and engage in the practice of
public performance.
The workshop culminates in the publication of a library-quality
anthology—Youth Voices In Ink.
All participants are guaranteed publication in our spring 2011 issue. The final
workshop includes a public reading, where writers share their work with fellow
students, family, and friends. A second community-wide reading in May allows
writers the chance to read before a larger audience and participate in a
book-signing event. Each student receives a copy of the published anthology,
which is also donated to the Austin Public Library System and sold at
BookPeople. Workshops are open to all Austin-area students in grades 3-6.
Enrollment is limited to twelve students per workshop.
