Numerous sources point to a decline in reading and writing among students of all ages. One study alone revealed that written vocabulary for children between the ages of 6 and 14 plummeted from 25,000 words in 1945 to just 10,000 words in 2000. Badgerdog's education workshops promote creative writing and critical reading skills along with an appreciation for the literary arts, targeting students who would not have the opportunity to participate in creative programming and whose stories might otherwise be overlooked. Badgerdog empowers children and youth with the language skills necessary to become authors of their own lives and provides them with the opportunity to publish their work in the professional-quality book Youth Voices in Ink.
